About
Moin all!
I am Maja and I grew up close to Hamburg in the north of Germany. My academic career in psychology led me to live in Portugal and Norway in the last years. I started my position as Early Stage Researcher in LimnoPlast in April 2020 at the University of Plymouth in the UK, working from my sister’s old bedroom at my parent’s place aka my new office due to the travel restrictions. Still everything pretty exciting. Right from the beginning, I was welcomed in an amazing team which I was able to meet regularly on video calls. As planned, in October my project transferred to the University of Vienna in Austria. There, I met my supervisors for the first time in person. With their support, I am looking at behavioural approaches towards microplastics; specifically, using social science insights to tackle this pressing issue. Together with my colleague Marcos I represent our fellow Early Stage Researchers, being a point of contact for them. I can call myself lucky to be part of the LimnoPlast team as we have a mix of many different personalities who are driven to tackle environmental and social matters in a setting where each of us is allowed to make mistakes and learn from them.
My first impression of Austria, honestly: That place, especially Vienna, is far from the ocean, but I discovered the beauty of hikes in the mountains close by and occasional (cold) swims in the Danube. For the latter, an experience no (who’s healthy and likes to challenge themselves) should miss out on.
Tschau! Baba!
