General Description

The Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT in Oberhausen, Germany is one of 72 institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Germany. 460 staff members produced a turnover of around 41.6M € in 2017. Fraunhofer UMSICHT employs scientists from the fields of chemical, mechanical, industrial and power engineering, chemistry, biology, physics, product design and business economics in interdisciplinary composed teams. Currently the institute holds more than 20 PhD students supported by the institute’s own Research School. 

Fraunhofer UMSICHT develops, examines and optimizes technical processes, conducts studies on a broad range of technical topics and acts as an interface between science, industry and economy. For industrial and public clients from a broad range of business segments, new ideas and technologies are converted into marketable technologies, products and services.

In the proposed project the department “Sustainability and Resource Management” will draw from its past expertise on the subjects’ sustainability assessment, life cycle assessment, market, technology and trend studies, ecological and economic assessment of materials, products and processes. The department currently supervises three PhD students. Young scientists profit from the wide and interdisciplinary experiences which are shared within the department and with a broad network of scientific and industrial partners.
