Ei, gude wie?

I am Sarah from Germany and moved up north to Trondheim, Norway for my PhD. At the Norwegian University for Science and Technology (NTNU) I will explore the human toxicity and identity of chemicals in plastic products. Plastic products contain a large variety of chemicals, up to thousands. The full chemical composition of finished plastic products and the toxicity of the chemical mixtures leaching from plastics remains largely unknown. I will address this problem, using reporter gene assays to study the endocrine activity of chemicals leaching from food contact articles (FCA) under various conditions. To identify the chemicals in FCA that are causing toxicity I will couple bioassays with chemical non target analysis, a so-called effect directed analysis. Further, I will support ESR2 in the development of a non-toxic bio-based and bio-degradable polymer in a green chemistry approach.

I am looking forward to addressing the challenges of plastic pollution with a great team of ESRs with such a diverse academic and cultural background.

What I enjoy most of living in Norway is the beautiful nature, all the possibilities for outdoor activities, the friendly people that are always happy to help and the internationality of the university.

Ha det bra,
Sarah
