In this interactive online seminar series, we take a closer look at the wicked problem of plastic pollution and microplastics. Our speakers are experts in plastic pollution and have diverse backgrounds in academia, policy making, civil society and beyond. They provide unique perspectives on the causes and impacts of the problem and discuss solutions.

About the speaker:
Peter Simpson is a Senior Scientific Officer and Restriction Coordinator at the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in Helsinki. Peter is an ecotoxicologist and, since 2018, managed ECHA’s work on a restriction proposal for ‘intentionally added microplastics’, which was completed earlier this year. Peter has also worked on developing restriction proposals for brominated flame retardants (decaBDE), cyclic siloxanes as well as various restrictions for lead (in PVC, ammunition and in fishing tackle). Prior to joining ECHA, Peter worked as a chemical risk assessment consultant and for the Environment Agency of England and Wales.
